CHARACTER INFO

Character Name: Nozomi Toujou
Character Canon: Love Live! School Idol Project

History: Wiki

AU History: Nozomi is the adoptive daughter of the Toujou family, a smaller offshoot family to the Fey line. Her biological mother and father, both Rangers by trade, were kept busy for much of the girl's young life, and as such, her memories of them while they were still living are very hazy at best. Their "passing" (it was never confirmed, the couple simply went missing during an expedition outside of Union) came as a shock to many, however, strangely enough, not to their young daughter.

Nozomi, then eight, already knew. Her cards told her. A gift from parents, she saw them disappear into the wilderness through them, their latent ability as well as the overall traumatic experience awakening her Enlightened abilities. Losing her parents and being initially very open about having previously known that it was going to happen was more than a little off-putting to not only her classmates, but also to many of the adults around her, to say the least. With no other immediate family to speak of, she was placed with a few different families. However, things never seemed to click, and the moving around took a toll on her emotionally, causing her to become more aloof initially.

It was not until the Toujou family found her that she managed to find a place for herself, so to speak. Renowned for their psychic abilities, much of the admittedly small family were oracles by trade. It stood to reason that, this child, belonged with them and, shortly after her fourteenth birthday, she was made a member of the family.

Put to work in her mother and father's shop, she quickly took to reading fortunes and became something of a favorite among its customers, giving her mother and father more time to work on other ventures. It is anticipated that Nozomi will likely take over the shop when she is older, but it is still unclear; and if Nozomi knows anything, she isn't telling.

Canon Personality: On the surface, Nozomi is a bubbly high school student who, for whatever reason, has deeply-vested interest in a school idol group. For the most part, she tends to stay in the background, unless it comes to giving her other group members a hard time, and is known for some rather insightful comments when she does speak up. Most notably, she seems to govern her decisions upon her tarot cards, and her predictions while using them are very rarely wrong.

However, there is much more to much of this than initially meets the eye.

Nozomi is a nice person with a giant heart. She cares for the people around her more deeply than perhaps anyone else, and generally wants everyone around her to be happy. In order to do that, she understands that, at times, there is a certain bit of meddling that is involved, and she does take a certain delight in getting involved. Extremely observant, often she can figure out just how much she needs to intervene and in what ways without being overt, and will do so; in canon, she was the one that gave μ's (Muse) their name, which had very special meaning, submitting it in secret. She was also the one that helped the other members reach out to Eri Ayase to become the final member of μ's.

While she loves to meddle and pull strings, there are times where she has a rather odd way of doing it. Nozomi, for lack of a better term, is a troll, and there are times where she really, really likes to get a charge out of people. This can be through saying something ("I'd like to see Elicchi in a sexy dress" in a situation where the group was looking for a new image; constantly giving Nico, another member of μ's and the idol group's butt monkey crap), or through being a bit more perverted by "punishing" them. She doesn't mean it out of ill, but this is how you know Nozomi really cares. A good grope. It's weird.

For all her bubbliness, Nozomi isn't all smiles and giggles and trolling. From an early age, she's lived practically on her own. It is unclear what her mother and father do exactly, but, until late elementary school, she moved around a lot. Even after this point, work kept the couple away from home more often than not, and Nozomi was expected to take care of herself. Through this, she grew up quickly, and that coupled with an inconsistent school life made her a bit lonely, and admittedly just a bit shy about herself and her own feelings. It was only through meeting Eri Ayase in her first year that she took steps to make herself more outgoing.

Even still, she has a hard time doing for herself, or letting others do for her. She gets embarrassed when others see her outside of her bubbly exterior, and is quick to try to dismiss it. At the end of the day, she wants to see others happy, and hates leaving well enough alone. She'll do what she can to do this and asks nothing for herself; in fact, quite the opposite.

AU Deviation: As Nozomi has not been required to move to many different places due to her parents' work, her loneliness comes from other avenues. Instead, she'll have been passed around among a few different families after her parents' disappearance and that, along with a general feeling of alienation over being very different from her foster parents as well as the children around her at school (seriously, she was probably THAT KID) account for this.

In canon, she is a member of a musical group called μ's (pronounced Muse), the other eight girls acting as something of a family to her. In this setting, she'll not have that and, very importantly, won't have the companionship of Eri Ayase. A formative friend of hers, it is through wanting to reach out to a person she viewed very much like herself that Nozomi eventually becomes the very bubbly and somewhat outgoing girl that she is. She does have a few close family members in Maya Fey and Jinxie Tenma (both cousins), however.

In addition, in canon, Nozomi can be a bit, for lack of a better term, rather perverted. For the comfort level of both this player as well as the general player base, I'll be toning this down significantly. She'll keep her somewhat trollish nature, however, her "punishments" will not be a thing.

I'll also be dropping some of the odd speech idiosyncrasies. In canon, she speaks with a Kansai accent and uses some interesting pronouns to refer to herself and the group as a whole. Because 1) she hasn't really moved outside of Union and 2) some of these things are particular to the Japanese language, I'll just be doing away with it entirely.

Canon Abilities: Nozomi is otherwise a normal human in-setting, as the canon itself doesn't have anything in the way of powers. She is, however, able to tell fortunes to a fault with her tarot cards, and it is boasted by a few of the club members that her predictions are very rarely wrong.

Enlightened Abilities: Nozomi is a Psychic/Dark Child of the Verdant Forest. Her abilities are, as a whole, are not very combative. Her strength is in making others around her better, and seeing through the strategies of those she is fighting.

Primary to her ability set are the equivalent of Future Sight and Helping Hand. Along with this, Nozomi has the unique ability to see how people and pokemon are tied to each other, seeing the bonds of fate that connect them.

For her initial form, she looks as she does in canon, save for her eyes. When using her psychic abilities, her eyes glow a faint blue-green. She will be able to use her cards in order to get basic predictions on her surroundings, as well as battle, however, unlike Future Sight, she will not be able to use this ability offensively. She also has access to an ability similar to Helping Hand, in that, during battle, she can encourage her compatriots to fight harder, giving them a temporary boost. Her ability to see the bonds of destiny ties between people is still weak, however, she is able to at least sense them somewhat.

Upon first evolution, her hair will turn more purple in shade, and with it, she will receive a large boost in power. While her cards are still a help, she no longer needs to rely upon them as a crutch for being able to use her predictive abilities. More importantly, she can channel an attack a few turns in the future and bring it into the present through her cards.

With her second evolution comes another large spike in power and, through this, she is able to channel future moves by her pokemon through her cards, dependent upon how closely attuned she is to them. This only works for those pokemon aligned with her warp band.

Starter Pokémon: A Nidoran ♂ named Mithra, and a Purrloin named Lakshmi.

Notes/Special Considerations: Nozomi's predictions do not always have to be spot on of course, and I'll be making a permission post for players, should they wish to opt-out.

In addition, she will be coming in with an enhanced item. A deck of strange-looking cards that have psychic typing, and help amplify her natural Future Sight-based ability. They can be used both in and out of combat.

SAMPLES
What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
I don't know what I would do without Mithra and Lakshmi, they make my life a lot more fun. They're my best friends.

What do you feel your role in Union is?
I'm nobody special, I'm just a humble shopkeeper. But if anyone needed my help, I would try to do my best.

What do you seek for humanity’s future?
[She looks up and "mmm"s gently, idly petting Lakshmi's head as she rubs against her leg.]

I usually let my cards decide that.

[With the same hand she used to pet the Purrloin, she draws a card from her tarot deck and shows it to the interviewer with a smile. Take it how you will.]

What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?
That's simple! I look for something that ties us together. [A coy smile.] You might call it fate.

What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?

I think--

[Nope, sorry Nozomi, you're getting overruled a second. Mithra hops down toward her lap, putting its paws on her arm and making cute cooing noises.]

What's that?

[There's a small exchange, and the girl suddenly looks startled, then quickly tries to play it off. You can't say those things, Mithra, at least not when they have guests!]

Can we go to the next question?

[Whaaaaaat? Nozomi come on, don't be shy! Mithra huffs a bit. Give yourself some credit, girl!]

The gods of old have returned. How would you be judged if you were chosen as a representative of humanity?

I wouldn't be picked. There's someone much better suited for this than me.

You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies, upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?

The ties that I have to my friends and family will keep me going, and if I'm supposed to get back, then I will.

What strengths make you most qualified for your role within Union?

I don't know if I'm the most qualified. I don't even know what my role is, really. I'm still waiting to find out.

In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable?

Leaving someone alone, or not acting when you know you should.

No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?

[Again she "hmm"s softly.]

That's hard. I think it might be fun to be able to fly! [Laughs.] No real reason, just that it would be fun.

I like the abilities that I've been blessed with and wouldn't want to trade them for the world. I'm pretty lucky.
